FMS Boys Soccer Continue to Improve
The Fairview Middle School Falcons Boys
Soccer Team has been working hard and
continues to show improvement. Despite
being a young team they have shown that
they can compete.
In the game on Monday, October 29
against Hillsboro, the FMS boys kept the
ball on the opponent’s side of the
field. There were several near goals
and the teamwork was evident. Late in
the 1st half a penalty kick
by Hillsboro gives them a score. During
the second half Noah Cundari had to
leave the game with an injury to his
arm. The rest of the team rallied and
Nikki Hazelwood scored for Fairview.
The game resulted in a tie.
In the game on Tuesday, October 30
against Sunset Middle School the
Fairview boys found a challenging team.
Sunset came out to dominate on offense
and kept the FMS team on defense most of
the 1st half. Despite
repeated saves by goalie David Higgins,
Sunset was able to get 3 in for scores.
The second half showed a turn around.
Coach Daugherty did some shifting on the
team, putting Ethan Rousel in the goal
and David Higgins at Center. FMS was
able to press repeatedly on offense and
the result was a score by Austin
Daugherty for Fairview. The game ended
with Sunset 3 and FMS 1.
During the game on Thursday, November 1
against Poplar Grove, FMS showed once
again that it is a competitive team.
Poplar Grove came out strong, keeping
FMS on defense and scoring one. But
with Ethan Rousel in the goal and David
Higgins, Austin Daugherty and Michael
Bengle up front, FMS was able to put
some offensive pressure on Poplar Grove
that resulted in a Penalty score. The
second half saw David Higgins back in
the goal. |
Poplar Grove scores again before FMS
comes on strong on offense and keeps the
ball on the Poplar Grove end of the
field. Several times FMS came very
close to scoring but the game ended with
the score of Poplar Grove 2 and FMS 1.
The game on Tuesday, November 6 at
Herritage started out pretty evenly
matched. David Higgins blocked several
shots to the goal by Herritage but
didn’t let any through. During the
second half Ethan Rousel started out
manning the goal. Herritage’s strong
offense was able to get two scores.
Michael Bengle came in as goalie but
Herritage proved too strong on offense
and score again. The final score was
Herritage 3 and FMS 0.
On Wednesday, November 7 at Woodland
Middle School the FMS boys got their
first win. The teams were fairly evenly
matched early on. David Higgins stopped
any scoring attempts by Woodland.
Michael Bengle was able to sweep in the
first goal for FMS. During the second
half Michael Bengle guarded the FMS goal
while the offense led by Tristan Weaver,
Noah Cundari and Nikki Hazelwood showed
excellent teamwork that resulted in an
assist by Noah to Nikki for the score.
The game ended with Herritage scoreless
and FMS with 2.
