Algebra II Honors A

Pre-requisite Material

  • Solve one, two, and multistep equations and inequalities with variables in both sides including and not including absolute value.

  • Understand and correctly implement the order of operations.

  • Represent linear functions graphically and in equations form.

Linear Equations

  • Solve a system of linear equations in two or three variables by graphing or algebraically.

  • Graph a system of linear inequalities and determine the vertices of the region formed by the graph.

  • Find the maximum and minimum values of a function over a given region and do applications of such problems.

Matrices

  • Organize data into a matrix, solve matrix equations, and perform scalar multiplication, addition, and subtraction of matrices.

  • Multiply matrices.

  • Find the determinant of a matrix.

  • Find the inverse of a square matrix.

  • Solve a system of equations using inverse matrices.

Polynomials

  • Multiply and divide monomials using appropriate exponent rules including positive and negative exponents.

  • Divide and factor polynomials.

  • Simplify radicals and find roots or real numbers.

  • Simplify radical expressions using radical symbol and rational exponents.

  • Solve radical equations and inequalities.

  • Perform operations with complex numbers.

Quadratic Functions

  • Graph quadratic functions, find the vertex, y-intercept, equation of the axis of symmetry, and the maximum or minimum value of a quadratic function.

  • Solve quadratic functions by graphing, factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula.

  • Use completing the square to get a quadratic function in vertex form.

  • Graph and solve quadratic inequalities.

Polynomial Functions

  • Use quadratic techniques to solve polynomial equations of greater degree.

  • Use synthetic substitution to evaluate a function and to determine if a binomial is a factor of that function.

  • Find the zeros of a polynomial function.

  • Perform operations with functions.

  • Find the inverse of a function if it exists.

Conic Sections

  • Determine which conic section an equation represents.

  • Graph a conic section given the equation.

Rational Functions

  • Graph rational functions.

  • Perform operations with rational expressions.

  • Solve rational equations and inequalities.

Exponential and Logarithmic Functions

  • Simplify exponential and logarithmic expressions.

  • Solve exponential and logarithmic equations and inequalities.

  • Solve problems involving exponential growth and decay.

Sequences and Series

  • Use arithmetic and geometric sequences and series.
