Tools of Algebra

  • Simplify and evaluate expressions and formulas using order of operations.

  • Classify and compare real numbers; add, subtract, multiply, and divide real numbers.

  • Simplify algebraic expressions using the distributive property.

  • Know and apply properties of real numbers.

Solving Equations

  • Solve linear equations (one step, two step, multi-step).

  • Use formulas to solve real-world problems.

  • Analyze data using mean, median, mode, and stem-and-leaf plots.

  • Define variables and write equations to solve real-world problems.

Solving Inequalities

  • Identify solutions of graph and write simple inequalities.

  • Solve linear inequalities.

  • Solve multi-step and compound inequalities.

  • Solve absolute value equations and inequalities.

Ratios and Proportions

  • Find ratios and solve proportions.

  • Apply ratios and proportions to analyze similar figures and calculate distances.

Graphing Linear Functions

  • Find rates of change from tables and graphs; find the slope of lines on graphs.

  • Write equations in slope-intercept form; use slope and y-intercept to graph equations.

  • Write linear equations in standard form; graph equations using intercepts.

  • Graph and write linear equations using point-slope form; write linear equations data.

  • Determine whether lines are parallel or perpendicular; write equations of parallel lines and perpendicular lines.

  • Translate the graphs of absolute value functions; graph absolute value equations.

Systems of Equations

  • Solve systems of equations and inequalities by graphing.

  • Solve systems of equations using substitution or elimination.

Exponents and Radicals

  • Simplify exponential expressions and perform calculations involving scientific notation using properties of exponents.

  • Learn to find square roots; apply square roots to solve problems using the Pythagorean Theorem and the distance and midpoint formulas.

Polynomials

  • Multiply polynomials by monomials and factor monomials from polynomials.

  • Multiply binomials using FOIL, multiply polynomials, and multiply special case binomials.

  • Factor trinomials and polynomials.

Quadratics

  • Solve quadratic equations by graphing, factoring, completing the square, and using the quadratic formula.
