1st Trimester Essential Outcomes

  1. The learner will identify the 5 stages of the writing process and use the process in order to write a 5 paragraph essay.
  2. The learner will evaluate his/her writing using the rubric for Tennessee’s Writing Assessment
  3. The learner will define archetype, oral tradition, origin myth, captivity narrative, sermon, and plain style.
  4. The learner will summarize readings from Colonial American Literature.
  5. The learner will evaluate the philosophical, political, religious, ethical, and social influences of Native Americans, Puritans, and Slaves on the American identity.
  6. The learner will analyze a sermon in order to establish tone and effectiveness of persuasion.
  7. The learner will analyze slave narrative to understand the function of autobiography as form of persuasion.
  8. The learner will define and use new vocabulary words.
  9. The learner will write persuasively to present a valid argument by supporting a thesis statement with details and examples, using transitional words and phrases, and by varying sentence structures and length.
  10. The learner will develop an understanding of and respect for cultural, gender, and ethnic diversity in Romantic literature by analyzing and responding to the author’s ideas as expressed through diction and syntax.
  11. The learner will extend reading vocabulary by applying strategies that assist in understanding definition and by synthesizing vocabulary into written and oral communication.
