1st Trimester Essential Outcomes
 

  1. The learner will be able to discern an implied main idea from a passage.
  2. The learner will be able to select the correct word for the sense of the sentence (your and you’re; where and were; its and it’s; they’re and there; to and too; stationary and stationery; complement and compliment; principal and principle, accept and except; capitol and capital; affect and effect).
  3. The learner will be able to interpret an author’s point of view (1st person or 3rd person limited / omniscient)
  4. The learner will be able to identify the simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, alliteration, or personification in a given portion of a poem. 
  5. The learner will be able to draw inference(s) from a selected passage. 
  6. The learner will be able to select the allusion in a given passage.
  7. The learner will be able to select the type of conflict (man vs. man, man vs. environment, man vs. himself, man vs. supernatural…) in a reading selection.
  8. The learner will be able to identify rhyme scheme and meter within a poem, as well as identify the basic tone and meaning of a poem.
  9. The learner will be able to identify elements of plot within a text

    10.   The learner will be able to discern an implied main idea from a short reading passage.

    11.  The learner will be able to identify the varying techniques that authors use to reveal character (physical characteristics, dialogue, what other characters say about them, character’s own actions) within short stories. 

    12.  The learner will be able to draw inferences from reading selections.

    13.  The learner will be able to define a symbol and identify symbols from short stories and novels.
