1st Trimester Essential Outcomes
1. The students will continue to be able to
identify and create examples of conflict in literature.
2. The students will be able to identify and create examples of irony
from literature.
3. The students will be able to identify the ways in which an author
reveals character.
4. The students will be able to identify symbols from literary pieces.
5. The students will be able to produce a 25 minute persuasive essay
using the Williamson County prompt. The essay will be scored following
the TCAP rubric.
6. The students will be able to discern and use within context
vocabulary from accelerated word lists ( ACT and SAT driven).
7. The students will practice and apply rules of punctuation in
writing.
8. The students will be able to recognize and correct sentence
fragments and run-on sentences.
9. The students will read two memoirs (novel length) and be able to
discuss important elements in each.
10. The students will be able to discern themes that are inferred as
well as apparent in each memoir.
11. The students will write a collection of reflective responses from
the first memoir – 22 responses.
12. The students will produce short writing assignments relating to
their readings or relating to relevant contemporary issues.
13. The students will create graphic organizers to demonstrate elements
in the memoirs, from short stories, and from poetry.
