1st Trimester Essential Outcomes

  1. The learner will be able to identify the historical period known as Anglo – Saxon including the development of language, religion, culture.
  2. The learner will be able to identify / recognize literature of the Anglo – Saxon period such as epic poem and the lyric poem.
  3. The learner will be able to identify the historical period known as Medieval period including the development of language, religion and culture.
  4. The learner will be able to identify / recognize forms of literature of the era such as the mystery / miracle plays and the morality plays.
  5. The learner will be able to read, analyze, discuss the epic poem Beowulf.
  6. The learner will be able to have knowledge of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.  They will know main characters in the prologue, as well as the story and literary elements in the Wife of Bath’s Tale and the Pardoner’s Tale.
  7. The learner will be able to recognize and correctly use active voice in their writing.
  8. The learner will be able to produce a project PBA demonstrating knowledge of Chaucer’s prologue.
  9. The learner will be able to know the basic stories of two Arthurian legends, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and Le Morte D’ Arthur and what is significant about each work.
  10. The learner will be able to identify the major types of conflict within a text and explain how that conflict relates to overall theme.
  11. The learner will be able to  determine how elements of plot are utilized by an author to create mood and tone within a text.
  12. The learner will be able to discern the meanings of grade appropriate words from context (from prescribed vocabulary and literary pieces).
  13. The learner will be able to make inferences and recognize unstated assumptions from text.
 

The learner will be able to identify the characteristics of a tragic hero within a literary work.
