Fairview High School Essential Outcomes are the performance indicators that students are to know and be able to do in each course. In most courses this will include 16-20 outcomes per trimester and by clicking on the link to the department below, you will be able to find the Essential Outcomes for each course within that department. The philosophy behind the Essential Outcomes is based on the Rigor and Relevance Framework supported by the International Center for Leadership in Education. By focusing our students on key objectives, our teachers are able to design lessons to help our students develop higher level cognitive skills and application opportunities. Essential Outcomes provide our teachers and students the means to studying content in more depth instead of superficially covering topics. Lesson planning for Essential Outcomes are developed with two key areas in mind – rigor and relevance. Below are the levels in both rigor and relevance that students will work to achieve at Fairview High School. Rigor: Bloom’s Taxonomy · Level 1 – Knowledge: Exhibit memory of previously-learned material by recalling facts, terms, basic concepts, and answers. · Level 2 – Comprehension: Demonstrate understanding of facts and ideas by organizing, comparing, translating, interpreting, giving descriptions, and stating main ideas. · Level 3 – Application: Solve problems to new situations by applying acquired knowledge, facts, techniques and rules in a different way. · Level 4 – Analysis: Examine and break information into parts by identifying motives and causes. Make inferences and find evidence to support generalizations. · Level 5 – Synthesis: Compile information together in a different way by combining elements in a new pattern or proposing alternative solutions. · Level 6 – Evaluation: Present and defend opinions by making judgments about information, validity of ideas or quality of work based on a set of criteria. Relevance: Application Model · Level 1: Knowledge in one discipline · Level 2: Application within discipline · Level 3: Application across disciplines · Level 4: Application to real-world predictable situations · Level 5: Application to real-world unpredictable situations We believe the key to success for our students is to master content at high levels of rigor and relevance.
