1st / 2nd Trimester Essential Outcomes

1.Examine the range of careers available in forensic science and related fields.
2. Examine the evolution of “coroner”.
3. Demonstrate proficiency using abbreviations and medical and dental terminology.
4. Analyze methods of obtaining appropriate specimens during a forensic autopsy.
5. Describe the duties of a forensic pathologist.
6. Examine the evolution of the forensic nurse.
7. Examine the difference between living forensics and other branches,
8. Examine the major issues related to death due to trauma, including concepts of cause and manner of death.
9. Examine the timeline and significant players in the field of forensic science.
10. Investigate the evolution of the crime lab from initial tests to modern instruments.
11. Demonstrate proficiency in analyzing fingerprints.
12. Examine a criminal case study in which legal procedures were not followed properly.
13. Identify what was done incorrectly and how this changed the outcome.

3rd Trimester Essential Outcomes

14. Compare various methods used to identify human remains.
15. Analyze blood splatter.
16. Investigate a criminal act, process and secure crime scene, analyze evidence, interrogate persons directly involved in the investigations.
17. Understand the process of procuring a warrant.
18. Effectively take their case to trial.
19. Perform necessary laboratory practices on evidence to prove their relevance to the case.
20.  Develop an understanding of forensic odontology
21. Demonstrate competency in DNA extraction.
22. Demonstrate competency in bacterial transformation.
23. Develop an understanding of genetic modification.
24. Student will exhibit proper lab technique.
