  • Read and discuss highlights of French history from 1715 through 1764 during the reign of Louis XV.

  • Read and discuss French history before, during, and after the Revolution focusing on the years form 1759 through 1794.

  • Discuss similarities, differences, and connections between the French and American Revolutions.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the discrepancies between the lives of the common people and the lives of the nobility during this time period in France.

Insight/Grammar and Function

  • Read and discuss an excerpt from Les Confessions by Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

  • Read and discuss an excerpt from Candide ou l'optimisme by Voltaire.

  • Use reflexive and reciprocal verbs.

  • Use the possessive, relative, interrogative, and/or demonstrate pronouns in written/spoken French.

  • Gain fluency in preposition usage.

  • Use communication devices and expressions that aid in indirect discourse in French.

  • Practice using descriptive language to enrich speaking and writing performances in French.
