1st Trimester Essential Outcomes

  1. The learner will be able to describe himself and others using the correct form of ser with adjectives.
  2. The learner will develop an understanding of what an infinitive is, and how to use it in a sentence.
  3. The learner will demonstrate the ability to greet others and to make introductions in the target language.
  4. The learner will develop an understanding of basic punctuation, accents, and pronunciation.
  5. The learner will determine the gender of nouns and use definite and indefinite articles as appropriate.
  6. The learner will translate a verbal sentence into a Spanish equation and vice versa (0-31 range).
  7. The learner will perform basic operations using simple numbers to tell time and give dates.
  8. The learner will identify areas, countries and capitals in the Spanish speaking world.
  9. The learner will describe weather conditions and seasons with idiomatic expressions as needed.
  10. The learner will perform basic operations using classroom commands in Spanish, and identify basic body parts.  (Raise your hand, etc.).
  11. The students will learn the subject pronouns and the –ar, -er, and –ir verb conjugation in Spanish.
  12. The students will learn the ordinal numbers first – tenth and use these in conversations and schedules.
  13. The students will identify classes and schedules in Spanish. 
  14. The students will expand basic conversation with additional classroom vocabulary.
  15. The students will learn the conjugations of the irregular verbs:  ser, estar and tener.
  16. The students will determine when to use ser or estar.
  17. The students will learn the plural of nouns and articles and how to use them.
  18. The students will identify interrogative words and use them in questions
  19. The students will develop conversation with new food vocabulary so as to be able to order a meal.

2nd Trimester Essential Outcomes

  1. The students will expand basic conversation with additional vocabulary on food, family, invitations and places to go.
  2. The students will continue to learn –ar, -er, and –ir verb conjugation such as deber.
  3. The students will learn the conjugation of the irregular verbs:  saber, conocer, ir and tener and apply them in conversation and writing.
  4. The students will determine when saber and conocer are to be used.
  5. The students will learn stem-changing verb patterns – jugar, etc.
  6. The students will make use of frequency words and days of the week.
  7. The students will identify and learn Spanish interrogative words.
  8. The students will continue to learn the irregular verbs plus venir.
  9. The students will develop vocabulary on family, food, colors, etc.
  10. The students will learn and use the possessive and demonstrative adj.
  11. The students will work on how to order a meal in Spanish.
  12. The students will learn more on how to describe people.
  13. The students will make comparisons.
  14. The students will continue to work with stem-changing verbs.
  15. The students will learn vocabulary on clothing and the home.
