Grassland Elementary School Needs You!    

On behalf of the Grassland School Community Association, we are inviting you to become involved as a volunteer in your child's school programs and activities, many of which would not be available without the help of our wonderful Grassland parents.     
      
Please review the list of committees and get involved.  Investing ourselves in Grassland Elementary School will continue to make visible differences in our children's education.  If you have any questions regarding the committees do not hesitate to call the committee Chairpersons.

Back to School Bash
Chairperson: Sharon Brugman
This fun family evening is held at the beginning of the school year.  More than 80 parent volunteers are needed to work 45 minute shifts throughout the event as well as setup and breakdown.  Each volunteer is asked to only work a minimum of 45 minutes.

Book Fair  
Co-Chairs:  Lynn Johnson, Mary Frank Miller
This is an annual spring event to raise money for our school library. Volunteers are needed to work in the library during Book Fair Week.

Box Tops For Education, Kroger Gift Cards, Publix Card
Co-Chairs: Elizabeth Bennett, Camille O'Donnell
These programs allow GSCA to raise money simply by the patronage of our parents.  You shop and GES is rewarded!
  
       

Clinic  
Chairperson:  Laurie Shackleford

The clinic is organized and supervised by the clinic chairperson with the assistance of the room mothers from each class.  Parents of each classroom are  responsible for staffing the clinic during their assigned time frame.  Please sign up at parent / teacher orientation  to help keep the clinic running smoothly and efficiently.
      
Cultural Enrichment Committee 
Chairperson: Kerry Finley    
Volunteers coordinate cultural events brought to the school through grants, partnerships and other opportunities.


Donuts for Dads

A special winter time activity that is just like it sounds!

Fifth Grade Recognition
Co-Chairs:  Lisa Johnson, Deb Rossi, Kim Browder
A spring event for the 5th graders and their families, as we bid them farewell and best wishes for their journey on to middle school.

GES S
pirit Day
Co-Chairs:

During this day, GES celebrates our school, our community, and our family.  Day long special events are planned and parents organize and host games, supervise students, and help set-up, tear down, and clean up.

Grandparents Day
Chairperson: Ashley Robertson
A fun day celebrating your child's education where grandparents are invited to join students for lunch and a peek of their classrooms.  Volunteers prepare mailings, set-up event, greet and serve lunch.

Holiday Service Project
Chairperson: Anne Prickett
Grassland students and their families participate in a community service project.

Kindergarten Facilitators
Chairperson: Michelle Krimmel
Volunteers are needed to help during lunch time and school dismissal with the kindergartens as they learn to navigate our lunchroom and their parents

      

Library
 
Chairperson:  Alison Johnson
Volunteers are needed to help in the library with shelving books, processing, maintenance projects, computer lab assistance, etc. Volunteers who can commit to regular days and times as well as parents whose time may vary from week to week are needed.

Lost and Found
Chairperson: Vicky Craig
Organize the lost items, and remind parents to check for missing items throughout the year.

Read Across America Day
Chairperson: Melanie Overby
Usually the first Friday in March, this event is a nationwide reading celebration and coincides with Dr. Seuss's Birthday.  Parents host reading guests, decorate walls, and help teachers coordinate snacks and other classroom events.

Reading Celebration
Chairperson: Melanie Overby
A day in August is set aside to celebrate summer reading.   The day  is a "Reading Celebration" for all.  The chairperson works with the Reading Committee to plan a day of "reading" fun.

Room / Reading Parent
Chairperson:  Kathy Berhow
Room Parents from each class help teachers plan three class parties, schedule clinic duties and meet other teacher requests throughout the year as well as coordinate parent classroom volunteers.  reading Parents coordinate with the teacher reading activities for the class. 

Related Arts (Art / Guidance / Music / P.E.)
Chairs: Art- Meredith Bare, Ivy Dodson; Music- Amy Young; P.E.- Jill Brewster; Guidance - POSITION OPEN
This committee assists the Related Arts Chairs for Music, Guidance, Art and P.E. with related arts events throughout the year including class musicals, Related Arts Night, Red Ribbon Week and Field Day. 

School Spirit Items

Committee presents Grassland spirit items to enhance school spirit and our sense of community through offering a limited variety of items fall and spring.

Staff Appreciation Lunches 
Chairperson:  Lisa Johnson 
Two volunteers per grade level organize one monthly luncheon with help from the committee to show our appreciation to GES teachers and school staff.
     

Sunshine Committee  
Chairperson: Joyce Huseman
This committee helps to facilitate and prepare meals to families and staff of GES experiencing illness.
 

Talent Show
 
Chair: 
Many students enjoy displaying talent in this annual event.  All students at GES are eligible to participate.  Volunteers are needed to help organize, stage, and rehearse this fun and entertaining event.  Please call if you would like to help.


T-Shirts  
Co-Chairs:  McCall Yancey, Michelle Palk
Each classroom's T-Shirts are colored coordinated and every child  needs a shirt to wear on field trips and other special days throughout the year.  Help is needed at Open Houses to record orders, receive payment, and distribute the T-shirts.
      
Yearbook / School Pictures  
Co-Chairs:  Deanette Bryan, Lisa Geiger
This Committee puts together the yearbook and coordinates school pictures for Grassland Elementary each school year.  Order information for the yearbook is distributed in the fall.  If you are interested in working on the yearbook staff, please call.
