Dr. Susan Curtis, Principal

Welcome to Grassland Middle School, one of the highest performing middle schools in the state of Tennessee and the only middle school in the state selected as a 2004 Blue Ribbon School. Here at GMS, as throughout Williamson County Schools, the focus is on our students. Our outstanding faculty and staff work tirelessly to provide our students with interesting, challenging, and meaningful learning experiences. As I begin my fourth year as principal at Grassland Middle, I want to continue to stress the importance of each member of our Grassland learning community feeling comfortable and secure in our school environment. Before students can be successful, they need to feel accepted and valued for themselves. We plan to accomplish this by providing a support system that offers encouragement and enthusiasm for each student. During the summer of 2007, our faculty members have received training in two new programs. Capturing Kids’ Hearts and the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program are both designed to help build relationships between students and teachers and students and their peers. Students will notice many new approaches being used by their teachers, all of which are designed to build productive relationships with students. A new period is also inserted into the daily schedule that we are calling “General Intermission.”  This period will include one day for relationship building, one day for intramurals, and three days each week for study and reading time.

One of our beliefs here at GMS is that “learning is our chief priority.”   I want to see everyone at Grassland engaged in meaningful learning experiences both in and out of the classroom thereby supporting our WCS belief that our educational system is a learning community where all personnel engage in continuous growth opportunities.  Our faculty and staff continue to collaborate to design work that students will find engaging and then to lead students to do well and to be successful in that work.   I invite you to browse our website, familiarize yourself with our offerings, then visit our school in Franklin, Tennessee and learn firsthand what it means to be a Grassland General. We welcome the opportunity to have your entire family become part of the GMS learning community
