About the Library
|
Philosophy - The Library is here to promote a love of reading in students and to provide materials and resources to support the curriculum. To that end we try to provide a variety of interesting and appropriate reading for pleasure and to align our collection with what the students are learning in the classroom. Our goal is for students to become lifelong learners. To that end students learn how to use the library independently and how to access information independently in both print and non-print forms. Library Visits - All classes have a scheduled time to visit the library once each week. Students K-3 come to the library for 45 minute classes in which we have story time and learn library and research skills. Students 4-5 may schedule flexible time slots for classroom research assignments. See the 2003-2004 schedule here. Open Check Out- In addition to scheduled class visits students may visit the library, with teacher's permission, during Open Check Out times. Open Check Out is daily from Check Out Policies - Books are checked out for one week at a time. Students may renew a book two additional times before the book is returned for others to enjoy. There is no fine for overdue books however students are not able to check out new books until overdues are returned. Books that have not surfaced in 30 days are presumed lost. An overdue bill with the cost of replacing the book will be sent home. Parent Volunteers - Parent volunteers help make this school one of the best in the area. Volunteers are important to the success of the library as well. We count on volunteers to help with check out during our busy times as well as other important daily tasks. Our annual Book Fair fundraiser is run completely by volunteers. We could use your help. If you are interested in volunteering in the library contact us by phone at or through email at lorib@wcs.edu. Birthday Club - You can commemorate your child's birthday and help the library at the same time by participating in the library's Birthday Club. For $10, your child will be able to select a "birthday club" book to donate to the library. A book plate with your child's name and birthday will be inserted in the front of the book and your child's picture will be added to our birthday club wall.
