WCS Vision

The Williamson County Schools is a student-centered, academically enriching district that supports the collaborative educational efforts of students, teachers, staff and community.

 

First Grade

The main focus of first grade is Language Arts, with an emphasis on teaching reading through a balanced literacy approach.  In addition to our basal reading program, reading is enriched by guided reading groups for small group instruction, Reading Buddies and daily homework practice that encourages parents to play a role in this "growing" process. Our writing curriculum encourages self-expression and proper writing mechanics through journal and story writing. Our Math and Science curriculum is based on a hands-on approach to facilitate higher order thinking skills. Social Studies lessons are presented in thematic units and center around family and community.
