Music
From folk music
to classical, our students are exposed to a variety of styles and aspects of
music. Students come to the music room for 45 minutes once a week and meet Ms.
Sparks, Music Specialist at Hunters Bend since 1995.
Activities during Music class are varied. Students are
encouraged to develop their own personal musical skills in singing, movement,
and instrument playing. Listening activities are experienced by all students as
well as playing Orff instruments and Recorders (4th and 5th grades). An effort
is made to collaborate with other departments so that students can experience
different areas (folk songs, art, and movement/dance) of many cultures.
In addition, students have a lot of fun learning about the performance side of music.
Through audio and video recordings, as well as interaction with live performing
groups, students have the opportunity to see and hear various types of
performances. Professional musicians from the Nashville Symphony, The
Nashville Opera Association, and many others, have been invited to come from
time to time to demonstrate their talents and inform the students of their area
of performance.
We practice the importance of performance in music by
preparing and performing musical programs for our parents and students.
Kindergarten through 4th grade students all get to be involved in a program with
their grade level. In addition, 3rd through 5th grade students can
participate and perform with the Hound Dog Singers Chorus.
