Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten!  Kindergarten is a milestone in your child's life.  It is not only the beginning of your child's first formal education, but will be the first toward life-long learning and social participation.  New experiences and friends make this year a special one.
Language activities are a priority in Kindergarten.  Through the utilization of literature books, class-made books, Big Books, puppets, tapes, poems and an array of other activities, children experience a language-rich environment daily.  This setting provides children with the foundation to eventually become emergent readers.
The mathematics program involves children in a variety of activities that create a foundation for mathematical understanding.  Children manipulate concrete materials such as blocks, buttons, keys, bread tabs, and Unifix cubes to form mathematical concepts.  Children discover the world of math through sorting, classifying, patterning, measuring, graphing and estimating.

School Day:  Currently, the school day begins at 8:30 A.M.  and ends at 3:35 P.M.  Schools may not mandate that kindergarten is solely a full-day program, however all kindergarten teachers are trained in early childhood development and we structure the day only with developmentally appropriate practices.  Kindergarten students eat lunch starting at 12:10, so they have a healthy early morning snack.

Supplies:  Your child will need a Hunters Bend tote bag and rest mat.  These will be available for sale in the office when school begins in August.  The PTO sponsors the sale of class t-shirts, which are worn on field trips and other special days.  The PTO also sells school supply kits, which contain all required materials in one package.

Parent Volunteers:  Yes!  Your help is needed in a number of other areas.  In fact, it's our strong parent base that has made Hunters Bend so great!  Shortly after school begins in August, the PTO will provide each family with a description of areas in which parents can volunteer.

Transportation:  Williamson County school buses are available to transport students to and from Hunters Bend.  Bus schedules and route information are available by calling the School Transportation Department at 599-8580.  Students may also be brought to and from school in their family cars.  Your child's safety is our primary concern.  Please be aware of arrival and dismissal procedures.
