It
is very exciting to be a part of the Heritage family! I
am originally from Alabama (Roll Tide), but Tennessee
has been home for nineteen years. I live in Brentwood
with my husband, Don; and our two French bulldogs, Lucy
and Wilson.
Lucy is twelve years old and Wilson is eight.
They are a lot of company!
I have
two sons, Blake who is twenty-five and Dustin who is
twenty-four.
Yes, I had them close…fifteen months apart.
Blake lives at home and works at Regions Bank. He
goes to MTSU at night and plans to graduate in May.
(yea!) Dustin graduated from the University of
Tennessee a year ago and lives in Boston, MA(I know, I
can’t hate UT since he graduated from there).
Now a
little about my professional career, this is my 23 year
in the field of education. I graduated from the
University of Montevallo in Alabama in 1979 with my
undergraduate degree and my masters in 1983. I taught
fourth grade in Alabama before moving to Texas and
having children.
When we moved to Tennessee, I started teaching
fourth grade at Grassland Elementary. (One of my
colleagues in fourth grade was Mrs. Jane Franks.) While
teaching I went back to school and got my reading
specialist and gifted endorsement.
When
Williamson County began hiring reading specialists, I
applied and was given the job at Grassland and Scales
Elementary.
Later I was full time at Scales.
During this time, I worked with teachers and
small groups of children.
I left Scales and went to the central office as
the curriculum specialist for literacy in grades K-5. I
worked with teachers, reading specialists, and wrote
curriculum for the county.
Last year, I decided to return to
the classroom. I was a first grade teacher at Westwood
Elementary in Fairview.
Now I find myself in 2nd grade at
Heritage and very excited for the new phase of my
teaching career! Go Eagles!
