You can not keep a
good Eagle down. Wednesday night the Overton Bobcats did
everything they could to exact revenge on the
Independence Eagles. However, the Indy Eagles fought
back each and every time they were down. Three different
occasions the Eagles fell behind and three times they
came back. The Eagles rallied for a 9-8 win over
the Bobcats of Overton in the Region 6-AAA baseball
championship. The victory gives the eagles their 13th
straight win and 18th in their last 19 games.
Independence trailed 1-0 in the first, 4-2 in the second
and 7-4 in the fourth. Carden’s three-run homer gave the
Eagles an 8-7 lead in the fourth.
Indy Eagles
junior Ford Wilson (4-0), the No. 9 hitter in the
batting order, drove in the winning run with a single in
the fifth inning and earned the victory in relief.
Eagles shortstop Josh Lee went 2-for-4, including a
two-run homer in the first for the
Vanderbilt
commitment. For the Bobcats they helped the Eagles out
by committing seven errors in the game as well. They had
six miscues a week earlier in the district championship.
"Tonight was another example of down and out and behind
a few times and these guys find a way to keep hanging
around,” Eagles Coach Bill Moore said. “Our seniors have
stepped up lately beyond words. They don’t want it to
end and I don’t want to end for them.”
Independence
(27-8) will play host to the Clarksville at 6:30 p.m.
Friday in a sectional and Overton (28-10) will visit Mt.
Juliet. |
