The Wolverines struck first with an early run in the first inning to take the lead, but that lead would seem like nothing more than a distant memory for Lavergne. In the top of the second the Eagles would explode for eight runs and never really look back. They kept the momentum up in the third inning as well scoring another six runs. Finally, the Eagles scoring was tapped off in the fifth with an additional run to give the Eagles their final score of 15-4. Independence would score 15 runs and 12 hits but gave some hope to Lavergne by allowing three errors.
