Independence Girls’ Soccer played their toughest week to
date and walked away feeling good about their
performance, however, they are a bit banged up. Tuesday
night we took on our first District opponent and played
well although a bit frantic in the 1st half.
After settling down in the 2nd half, we found
a good rhythm but were not able to crack an organized
Ravenwood defense. A second half goal by Ravenwood gave
them their second goal and we were not able to match
them. Unfortunately, we lost the game 2-0 and our
leading scorer, Sarah Helton, to a broken nose during
the game.
Thursday evening was as much a mental battle as it was
physical. The Lady Eagles limped into the game against
Smyrna Bulldogs with two starters missing and two more
hobbling. Independence scored two first half goals.
Hayley McDonough and Mallory Arneson blasted the shots
to give the Eagles an early 2-0 lead. Independence
fought hard the second half to preserved the shutout and
grab an important victory over the Smyrna Bulldogs.
When all was said and done, several of our reserve
players gained much needed experience and were very
important to the team to help raise the Lady Eagles
overall record to 4-1 on the young season. The
Tennessean recently ranked the Lady Eagles in the Top 10
in the mid-state at number 10. In their first five games
the Lady Eagles have only allowed 3 goals.
