The 2nd
annual Indy Co-Ed Relays were once again dominated by the
Eagles. However, this year's relays brought in more teams
and challenges for the Eagles. The girls and boys track
teams of Independence combined forces and defended the home
turf in a big way Friday night. Twelve teams competed
including four WCS teams, making it the largest meet Indy
has ever hosted. The Eagles won the first event of the day
and never trailed on their way to the biggest invitational
win to date. The Eagles accomplished this while their best
distance guy (Josh Helton) and the Eagles best sprinter
(Cameron Williams) are "on the shelf" with extended
injuries/illnesses. First year Indy girls coach Mike
Winstead was awarded the coach's plaque and is doing a fine
job with the girls team. The only time we really got our
tails kicked Friday night was in the coach's relay, where
coach Finley feels, "I think we finished next to last
courtesy of my "blazing" anchor leg. I've clearly lost a
step or two." As for the actual runners that do have a step
or two ahead of Coach Finley and the coaches, the eagles
took first place finishes in the 4x1600 relay, High Hurdles
relay, Shot putters, 4x100 relay, 4x800 relay, sprint medley
relay, distance medley relay and the 4x400 relay.
