Indy
Track and Field is still making noise even without the
perennial power of Kathy Kroger. Independence was just one
of four other schools in AAA that was able to advance 3
relays to the finals.
The 4x200
qualified with the sixth fastest time in the state and the
4x400 qualified with the third fastest time in the state. If
both of these relays just get the baton around the track
Friday night and finish at all, they will both become state
medalists. Independence has never had a boys or girls relay
on the medal stand at state and if Indy can avoid any type
of disaster they will have at least two relays and eight
medalists there Friday night. Eagles still have a chance at
the medal stand in the 4x800 and Ryan has a chance to medal
as well in the 1600m. "We'll be pretty big
underdogs to actually win the 4x4, but we should be close
enough to stick around near them until the end where
anything can happen," Coach Finley. For the girls, Brittany
Woods missed a medal by one single place in the high jump
Thursday but tied her all time best and the school record.
Woods missed being 4th in the state by literally an inch!
