The 2009-09 season is about to
begin for the Independence Eagles wrestling team. This year the team
is looking forward to not only duplicating their accomplishments
from last year, but surpass them. Last season the Eagles stunned
many in the mid-state and the state as a whole by capturing Region 6
Duals Champions, Region 6 Individual Champions and placing 4th at
the State Duals meet. This season Coach Grindstaff's returns much of
the talent that accomplished those feats and adds some younger
talent to replace those that left and continuing building a strong
program for the future of Independence wrestling. Nine Seniors
return to the team this year, with four being state qualifiers and
up. The leaders of the pack would be three time state qualifier and
fifth in the state last year at 119 lbs is Chase Beazley. Another
leader in the Eagles team is two time state qualifier Thomas Berry
at the 215 lbs class. Taylor Dixon is another senior with experience
at state. Dixon is a two time state qualifier and placed 6th overall
at last year's state meet in the 160 lbs class. Senior Chris
Sinsheimer, who placed 4th last year at state, is another senior who
is already a two time state qualifier. Others looking to give
support for this strong team is Junior Heavyweight and state
qualifier from 2008 Dalton Burge. A mainstay the past two season for
the Eagles football program on the offensive line Burge looks again
to qualify for state at the heavyweight level despite top
competition from other area programs in that weight class.
Coach Grindstaff is looking forward
to this season and the Eagles wrestling community is as well. We
wish the team all the best this 2008-09 season. |
