Last night the Eagles'
Wrestling team had their first region match up of the 2008 -2009
season. While the University celebrated the lighting of the
Christmas tree, it was our Eagles that were lighting up the
Mustangs on the mat. Out of seven weight classes that actually
wrestled, the Eagles won five of those matches by the way of
pin. Chase Beazley (125 lbs.), McCoy Newberg (145 lbs.), Ben
Little (160 lbs.), Stephen King (189 lbs.), all won their
matches by pinning their Lipscomb opponents. Six other eagles
won their matches due to forfeit; Ernie Overton (112 lbs.), Cory
Hunt (119 lbs.), Caleb Little (130 lbs.), Austin Heithcock (135
lbs.), Derek Giamundo (152 lbs.), and Thomas Berry (215
lbs.). Only two Eagles lost their match up against David
Lipscomb; Brad Gandy (171 lbs.) lost by pin fall and Heavy
Weight Chasen Fowler lost on points 4-0. Overall, The eagles won
59-15 over David Lipscomb. Coach Grindstaff wanted to
point out that there is one huge missing component for the
Eagles Wrestling team this year; a person that can be there 103
lbs class wrestler. Coach Grindstaff will take anyone that is
willing to be part of a state contending team and basked in the
glow of our great wrestling team. "Please
help me locate a small child to wrestle 103 lbs….. I don’t even
care if it is a girl." The call is out to all of Indy Nation to
find someone willing to be part of greatness and can wrestle at
the desire weight.
