Coach Grindstaff
wanted to update all of Indy Nation on latest wrestling news for the
Eagles. The Eagles had 4 guys compete at the NHSCA High School
National Tournament. "This is the premier national tournament for
wrestling in this country and is a huge recruiting tool for
colleges" according to Coach Grindstaff. They divide the kids up by
grades to find out who the best freshmen, sophomores, juniors and
seniors are in the country in each weight class. For Independence,
the Eagles were well represented by Chris Sinsheimer, Brennen Cox,
Zach McMillan and McCoy Newberg. All four wrestled very well but
McCoy Newberg had the best week out of all of them. The tournament
had kids from 47 or the 50 states and McCoy was able to defeat
wrestlers from New Jersey, Pennsylvania and a state champ from West
Virginia on his way to the finals. Newberg lost 5-2 in the
championship match but still walked away from this extremely
difficult tournament with a 2nd place finish. McCoy
Newberg is Independence's first High School All-American in
wrestling! "Placing 2nd at this tournament was a huge
accomplishment and he deserves it. McCoy dedicates himself to
wrestling outside of school and truly loves the sport" a joyous and
proud Coach Grindstaff recounted. |
