The wrestling team competed this
past weekend at the Soddy Daisy invitational with only 9 out of
14 wrestlers competing, the team managed to come away with 2nd
place in a field of 16 teams. Independence did have five wrestlers out
for this
weekend's tournament due to a variety of reasons. The ones that did end up
wrestling did an outstanding job. The results are as follows…
112 Ernie Overton DNP (Did Not
Place) "but was a match away from placing, wrestling very well
and made a lot of improvements this weekend, according to Coach
Grindstaff."
119 Kevin Bratt, DNP "but he
wrestled very tough as was fighting through sickness."
125 Chase Beazley 2nd
; lost to #1 ranked wrestler in state but had a great weekend
beating a couple very good opponents
130 Autin Heithcock DNP but he
wrestled well, he just had a very tough draw in the bracket
losing to the guys that placed 3rd and 4th.
140 Seth Seneca 1st ;
beat the # 1 ranked wrestler in the state by a score of 9-3
145 Brennen Cox 2nd
wrestled very tough and fought through his injuries
160 Taylor Dixon 3rd;
lost to the #1 ranked wrestler in the state in Overtime. Taylor
did great battling through his shoulder injury
215 Thomas Berry 4th
lost twice to #5 ranked wrestler in the state, both time on last
second points being scored. He is fighting an elbow and
shoulder injury.
HWT Dalton Burge 2nd
lost in double overtime in the finals but look great this
weekend!

This week we have a regional
match up against Ravenwood on Tuesday night @ 5:30 at
Ravenwood.
