The Independence
Wrestling team is nearing the end of their season and this past
weekend the eagles competed in the State Duals tournament in
Clarksville. Independence went into the tournament looking to bring
back a championship to Independence but we came up short. "We did as
well as we could Friday night defeating Collierville and Soddy Daisy
very convincingly. We then met up with Bradley Central who has been
in the state finals for the past 12 year!" according to coach
Grindstaff, "We had the kids so excited to wrestle them and the
entire team believed we were going to win. We started the match
great but in the end Bradley won 31-26, their closest match of the
past two years!" The Eagles didn’t win the match but "each one
put everything they had into that match and honestly we were too
exhausted for our next opponent. We immediately had to turn around
and wrestle Clarksville for a chance to make the 3rd and
4th place match." Th Eagles fell short losing 33-30.
"The boys learned some valuable lessons this weekend that I know
will have a lasting impression on them."
Up next is the
Individual Regional tournament this Friday and Saturday @
Independence. The following week is the Individual State Tournament
down in Chattanooga which will be held Wed-Fri of that week. Thanks
for all the support this season! |
