Eagles Win Region 6 Tournament

This past weekend the Eagle’s Wrestling Team hosted and competed in the Region 6 Individual wrestling tournament. The top three athletes in each weight class qualify for the state tournament. The State tournament will be this week ,Feb 14-16, down in Chattanooga (103 lbs class qualified top 4). The Eagles walked away from the Regional tournament with their best showing of the year, taking top honors as the best team in the region and qualifying a school record 11 for the state tournament.

Although, there were many individual successes over the weekend, none really could compare to Chris Sinsheimer and Dalton Burge. Chris had to defeat a wrestler from Brentwood that previously defeated him 16-1 earlier in the year. Chris dug deep down to win a close battle by the score of 6-5 to secure his state tournament birth. Dalton Burge was the 6 seed in his bracket and had a first round match with a wrestler from Overton that had previously defeated him twice. Dalton came out with a fire and pinned his opponent in the first period to place him in the semi finals where he defeated the #2 seed from Brentwood 4-3. Overall, the team put forth an amazing effort and showed the entire region that Independence is a force in Wrestling!

The state tournament starts Thursday and the kids will be leaving on Wednesday night.
