Eagles Athletics

Last night Independence competed against the very tough Cookeville Cavilers wrestling team. We defeated them 41-19 and although the score was not as close as Coach Grindstaff anticipated, it was a great competition with numerous matches that could have gone either way. The boys are on a roll heading into the Regional Dual Tournament which Independence will be hosting on Saturday Jan 26^th @ 3:00 p.m. Coach Grindstaff would love for the Indy Nation community to be there and support the Independence wrestling team at our first ever Regional Dual Tournament. In order for the Eagles to qualify as a team for the state tournament, Independence must defeat either Brentwood or Overton at the regional tournament.

The Eagles are the #1 seed in tournament and are setting their expectations high for this season. To follow along the coattails of the Indy football team and take this wrestling team to state as well is the big goal for this team. Also Tuesday night, January 22, Indy wrestling will host Coffee Co. This is our senior night (Will Cox, Jacob Twaddle, Gustavo Quintero, Matt Gabriel). This is our last regular season home wrestling match, Tuesday @ 5:00 pm.

This weekend we are in Knoxville on Saturday for the Halls Invitational. The Freshman are at the Grand Championship at McGavock High School. Indy Nation wish them all good luck!
