When the
gun sounds today at the regional 6-AAA meet at steeplechase,
hundreds of runners will cross the start line, however, only
the top 10 finishers in each division, along with the top
three teams (top four in Division II), will qualify for the
state meet. Among those runners will be freshman sensation
Kathy Kroeger of Independence High School. At the District
11 championships Kroeger posted one of the best times in
state competition this year with a 17:56 finish. She will
compete in the Region 6-AAA meet at the Steeplechase where
she is the favorite. Recently, she was ranked second in the
state and sixteenth in the country.
‘’She’s a
natural,’’ Independence Coach Kristen Reames said. ‘’She’s
an amazing athlete, but the neatest thing about her is she
is so humble about it.’
All of us
here at Independence wish Kathy and the whole team all the
best at Regions and beyond. Go Eagles!
