Go Eagles!! Eagles Big Over Big Red

The Eagles accomplish their second consecutive win in a row after faltering twice against Franklin and Raven wood. The Eagles get wins against Fairview and last night's win against Montgomery Bell Academy was a another step in the right direction for the young Eagle squad. After last year's rude awakening into varsity basketball with no previous experience, the Eagles are starting to show the experience gained from that rough first season and how much they have matured in their performance so far this season. They are winning the games they are suppose to win and playing tough in those they may not be favored to win. Last night saw a maturation stage achieved when Junior Forward Nick Luttrell scored 22 points to lead Independence (6-4, 2-2), and Tyler King added 13. For the second consecutive game the Eagles led at the half and truly never looked back nor were they threaten to lose their lead. At the half the Eagles led 35-27. The Big Red was unable to stop Luttrell down low and inside the paint all night long. Tyler King was hot from behind the arc as he put in 3 three-point shots to account for part of his 13 points. A couple of other Eagle players took up the slack for the loss of guard Isaac Baugh, who injured his knee against Fairview and will be out for a few weeks. Wes Farris, Johnny Kuchar, and Austin Ray each added 8 points to help solidify the Eagles sixth win of the year.

MBA (1-6) was led by Deon Gaines with 12 points. Next up for the Eagles is another cross county rival, Page High School.  The Patriots are off to a decent start themselves at 4-3 mark. They defeated Raven wood earlier in the year. This should be a great match up between two good teams. So, load up the car with all the Eagle fans you can and head over to Page and cheer on our Eagles to victory.

Go Eagles!! Eagles Down Jackets

After two consecutive losses to Franklin and Ravenwood, the Eagles needed a win badly to regain their confidence. Monday night, the Eagles traveled to Fairview to face the Yellow Jackets. For the Eagles, it was the win that they desperately needed. In the last couple of games, the Eagles have battled hard but always seem to trail in the scoring department. In this game, it was the Eagles who found themselves ahead and never really any threat of losing that lead. Nick Luttrell ignited the Eagles with 23 points while Isaac Baugh and Tyler King each chipped in 12 points as Independence rolled easily 66-41.
Tommy Sullivan led Fairview with 11 points while Clint Bogle added 10 points.

Go Eagles!! Rebels outpower Eagles

Franklin continues its dominance in basketball much like they did last year. The Rebels open the first quarter with 22 points and continued hot shooting for most of the game. The rebels were led by Derek Anderson and Donta Brown (9-0, 4-0 11-AAA) with 17 points each, including five 3-pointers by Anderson. Three Eagles were the double digit scoring Nick Luttrell led Independence (6-2, 3-2) with 16 points. Johnny Kuchar and Tyler King added 15 points each but it would not be enough.
