WCS RECEIVES $24,000 GRANT

Williamson
County Schools will receive $24,439 this year to help improve
student character and development. Last month, the
Sprint Foundation announced the winners of its Sprint Ahead
for Education grant program. Out of nearly 1,200
applicants, Williamson County Schools was selected as one of
64 grant recipients from across the nation.
The Williamson County Schools Character
Education Program, which is designed to teach students how
to make wise choices in life, will receive the grant. Middle School Director
Dr. Jubal Yennie says the district will use the money to
team with a special program called Love in a Big World.
"Love in a Big World will provide training and materials to
fifth and sixth grade teachers at 12 schools across the
county," said Yennie. "Those 12 schools
volunteered for the program."
Love in a
Big World has been used
in more than 225 schools throughout 10 states. They
provide assemblies, curriculum, teacher training and
classroom resources. Organizers say the program shows
teachers how to educate kids to make wise choices, build
strong character and inspire hope in America's youth. |
