4th Grade Summer Reading Program
General Directions

Welcome to a wonderful year of 4th grade at Longview Elementary! We are so happy to have you. Our goal for your child this summer is for them to continue on their journey as learners and develop an ongoing love for reading.  The 4th grade suggested reading list for this summer is any book on the AR list. You can find a complete list online at: fourthgradelist. This list serves only as a recommendation and is based on the general Accelerated Reader 4th grade level. If you know your child’s reading level, whether above or below this suggested list, please use that instead. {If you are interested in your child taking comprehension-based quizzes over books that he/she reads, you can do so at www.bookadventure.com. This is a website by Sylvan, and is recommended by Mrs. Gordon, our librarian. }

Attached you will find a Summer Reading Log. As your child reads this summer, have him/her write it down on the log. We suggest you tape the log in a highly visible location (ex: refrigerator door, bedroom mirror, etc). Anything your child reads can be written in the log, such as:

·         Chapter books

·         Reading a children’s book to their younger sibling

·         Reading a recipe

·         Directions to a toy or game

·         Magazines and newspapers

·         Closed captioning on the TV

Totaled reading logs are to be turned in to your child’s classroom teacher during the first week of school. We will then have a fun award ceremony as a grade level recognizing student achievement.

Have a great summer and see you in August!
