OPEN CHECKOUT GUIDELINES

q Students are welcome to come to the library for open checkout throughout the day with their teacher’s permission (up to 3 students from a class at a time).

q Teachers will be provided with three library passes. (Students who come to the library without a library pass, after the school day starts, will be sent back to class.)

q Open checkout hours are from 8:00 am to 11:25 am and from 11:55 am to 3:00 pm Monday through Friday (please note the break for specials’ lunch).

q In library lessons, students have been made aware of the fact that open checkout is a privilege and that it is a time for returning, finding, and checking out books in a timely (and respectful) manner. We will partner with you to ensure that each student’s visit lasts no more than 10 minutes.

q Ideas for open checkout times include: before school, before or after lunch, during transition time, during practice time, during DEAR time, etc.

q Please do not send an entire class for checkout at any time other than their scheduled library time.

q The goal is to create a flow of checkout throughout the day and to allow for collaborative lesson planning and research projects in the flexible time.
