Good Habits for Life

You have the power to set the stage now for good homework and school habits!  Encourage a love of learning by helping your child in the following ways:

·        Read to your child for at least 15 minutes everyday.  Make going to the library a highlight of the week.

·        Talk frequently with your child.  Encourage your child to express his or her opinion, talk about feelings, and make choices will not only build vocabulary but also boost confidence to participate in school discussions and activities.

·        Point out the new things you learn with enthusiasm.  Discuss the different ways you find new information, demonstrating that learning is both fun and challenging.

·        Keep an upbeat, encouraging attitude about homework and education.  Be supportive of your child’s early attempts at learning.  Encourage his or her best guesses, and have patience as your child’s skills develop with time.

·        Children will need enough sleep and quiet time to balance their new schedules and busy days.  About ten hours a night is sufficient, but sleep times may vary.
