Oak View Elementary

    Sept 22, 2008    PTA NEWSLETTER

WELCOME TO OAK VIEW ELEMENTARY!

Welcome to all our new and returning students, parents, faculty and staff.  As we begin a fresh, new year at Oak View, I look forward with excitement to serving our school.  There are so many opportunities for everyone to get involved at Oak View and I hope you jump right in and get involved! The PTA committees and volunteering in your child’s classroom are both great ways to learn about Oak View and be a part of your child’s education.  I encourage you to put your time and talents to work…and hopefully have a little fun in the process!

A sincere thank you goes to Michele Holt and Christy Collins and their Back-To-School Pack volunteers.  They did a super job organizing the Oak View School Supply Pack Sale held on August 7th in our gym.

A GIANT thank you to Jane Hassell for selecting and organizing the sale of our very popular Spirit Wear items.  Jane is helping raise money for Oak View and we are so thrilled! J

A Big “Thanks” to Nelson Printing who will help the PTA with the printing of this year’s Whoo’s Who Directory that will be available this fall.   We are so appreciative of them for their assistance!

Thank you to Debbie Renzaglia and her Opening Week volunteers.  In addition to delivering the balloons and welcome notes to our kindergarten students, they also helped out in the cafeteria, and ensured that our new little bus riders found their correct buses by tagging their backpacks with their color coded bus numbers.

Also thanks to Angie Dugger and Andrea Hobbs for their willingness to spend some quality time with “Ollie” the owl and our kindergarteners!

Thanks to our Hoot, Scoot & Boogie Coordinators, Stephenie Murrell and Jennifer Bramlett.   These ladies, along with their team of volunteers, are currently hard at work preparing for our annual fundraiser.  It is sure to be a fun, exciting and successful evening thanks to their tireless efforts.

The Hospitality Committee kicked the year off with a delicious Faculty/Staff Welcome Back Luncheon on Aug 7th, and the Boo Hoo Breakfast on Aug 25th. Both events were fantastic. Thank you, Lori Randolph, for overseeing this committee and thank you to our many wonderful cooks (I mean committee members). J

I would like to sincerely thank all our new PTA Committee Coordinators and Volunteers. We look forward to working with you and getting to know you better.  Remember, YOU are the reason Oak View Elementary is BETTER TOGETHER! J

As PTA President, I am fortunate to have so many talented and energetic people willing to help operate the many PTA activities at Oak View.  Ultimately, our students and school are the direct beneficiaries of all our wonderful parent volunteers. Thank you!  Please feel free to contact me directly, at any time.

Kroger Cares Before doing your shopping at Kroger, purchase a Kroger Gift Card.  For every dollar spent, Kroger will donate 5% to our school.  Please contact Chris Jewell at Christine1971@bellsouth.net to obtain an Oak View Kroger card.  Again, this is an easy way to raise money for Oak View at no cost to parents.

Publix Partners – Publix will donate $500 for every $75,000 our supporters spend at Publix. If you would like a Publix Partners card, just pick one up the next time you sign in at the office!  There is no charge.  Just present it to the cashier before you begin your transaction.

Box Tops & Campbell’s Soup Labels are back!– The Box Tops & Soup Label bins are back in the school entryway.  Please clip Box Tops and Labels from all General Mills products and turn them in at school.  Put your child’s name on the back of each Box Top and Soup Label or on the outside of a baggie full; and every Friday we will draw for prizes!  So clip to earn money for Oak View and prizes for your kids.  Please contact Chris Jewell if you have any questions or would like to contribute to the weekly prizes.  Christine1971@bellsouth.net.  Thank you.

Target:  Take Charge of EducationTarget will donate 1% of Target VISA and Target Guest Card purchases made at Target or Target on-line at Target.com, and ½% of Target VISA purchases made elsewhere to Oak View.  Just phone 1-800-316-6142 to designate Oak View as your school of choice.

Attention all Parents:

Thank you for your generous contributions and donations to our Hoot Scoot and Boogie fundraiser.  This year is the 10th anniversary of the Hoot, Scoot & Boogie and we know it will be a tremendous success.  We appreciate all you do for our school. Thank You! Thank You!

A few final notes …

“The PTA is an association that provides members with access to an established network of volunteers at the local, council, state,

and national levels who help one another and share resources, ideas, and projects.  It goes beyond the local school as many

problems affecting children and youth cannot be solved by local action alone.  There is strength in numbers, and the PTA has the

clout and numbers to get the job done.  Parent groups or PTOs are solely school based and do not provide a larger network of

Individuals, resources, training opportunities and support.” (Taken from the website: www.tnpta.org/PTAFacts.html)

Thank you Oak View Parents for making our school and future very bright!
