Second Grade Collages

Shape Collage

In Second grade, we’ve been talking about shapes.  Shape is one of our Elements of Art.  Almost every drawing begins with a shape.  We also learned what a collage is.  Anything glued to a flat surface is a collage.  They created a collage using different colors of construction paper

 Fourth Grade

Contour Line Cows

The fourth graders have been working on contour line drawings.  A contour line drawing is a drawing of the outside line of an object.  It is not a detailed drawing and you can’t pick up your pencil, which makes your drawing look a little different.  A contour line drawing is a good drawing exercise to get you loosened up and ready for some serious art work.  We drew Patrick, the Art Room cow and then traced him all over the paper.  To make our compositions interesting, we used overlapping and made Patrick go off the page.  Add a few patterns and a little watercolor and you have some serious artwork!

Fifth Grade Quilt Squares

The Fifth graders learned that certain quilt patterns were helpful to escaping slaves on the Underground Railroad.  Different patterns meant different messages and these messages would help slaves get to Canada.
