Helpful Tips to Ensure a Successful School Year 

Establish a routine before school starts

	determine a bed time, meal time, homework time
	begin a daily habit of reading
	provide 15-20 minutes every day with a dedicated place for your child to read, practice a skill, or to complete homework
	limit TV and video games

Talk about what to expect at school

	curriculum
	peer groups
	open communication
	projects and time management

Check into it

	bus schedules
	child care
	specific supply lists
	school hours
	registration requirements
	school calendar

Get Involved

	attend Open House
	attend and participate in the parent-teacher association
	go to conferences
	volunteer

Help your children make their own decisions

	discuss problems
	gather information
	list the alternatives
	think about consequences
	consider feelings
	choose the best possible course of action
