Reporting Suspected Child Abuse

The social workers are available to consult with schools when faculty and staff have concerns that a child is being abused and/or neglected.  They can process the information with staff and guide them through the reporting procedures.

The school social workers do not conduct abuse investigations, nor should any other individual.  If school personnel suspect that a child is being abused or neglected, it is that person’s responsibility to report it to the Department of Children’s Services (TCA 37-1-403).   We can work with the family once DCS has concluded their investigation, but we will not go into a home beforehand to try to substantiate allegations.

Please refer to Williamson County School board policy regarding reporting suspected child abuse: 6.409
