Frequently Asked Questions
-
Does my child have to get a physical before he/she
participates in tryouts?
Yes, This rule is a part of
the TSSAA guidelines and must be followed by all of the high
schools and middle schools. This rule is also intended to
help take your child’s health into consideration.
-
Can my child transfer to an open zoned high school and
be eligible for athletics?
Yes, if your child has not
participated in high school sports at his/her previous
school for the past twelve months or is enrolling as a ninth
grader and meets all other TSSAA eligibility requirements.
If your child participated in athletics at his/her previous
high school during the preceding twelve month period, then
your child will have to sit out for twelve months from the
date of the last participation in an athletic contest.
-
If my residence is rezoned to another high school, will
my child immediately be eligible to participate in
athletics?
Rezoning will occur from time
to time. Children who are rezoned to another school are
immediately eligible to participate in their new school even
if they have a choice to grandfather at their present
school.
-
What steps should I take if I am unhappy with a coach?
It is the district protocol
that you first talk with that particular coach to make every
effort possible to resolve any differences. If the problems
are still unresolved, then talk with the school
administrators (Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, and
Principal). If the problems are not resolved to your
satisfaction at the school level, then contact the Athletic
Specialist at 615 472-4095.
