 Number One in the Nation Brentwood High Soccer Team Crowned State Champs

Undefeated Brentwood High School Boys’ Soccer team defeated Houston for the AAA state championship in Murfreesboro on Saturday afternoon.  Brentwood finished with a record of 24-0 and ranked number one in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas.  The 1-0 score in the state championship game marked the 11th consecutive shutout and 20th overall for the Bruins.  The Bruins only gave up five goals the whole season.

 

Brentwood Wins Overall Boys’ Track Championship

Brentwood High School ran away with the AAA Boys’ Track Championship in Murfreesboro during Spring Fling.  This was the second consecutive track championship for the Bruins.

Williamson County Athletes who placed in the top five in the State Championship track and field events were:

Chaz Scales and Raymond Jackson both of Centennial came in 2nd and 5th place in the AAA 100 meter dash.

Sean Keveren of Brentwood won the AAA 1600 meter run while Josh Helton of Independence finished in 3rd place.

Ford Bell and Sean Keveren both of Brentwood finished 2nd and 3rd place in the AAA 800 meter run.

Kevin Lazas of Brentwood came in 5th place in the AAA long jump.

Les Gilbert of Page came in 2nd place in the A-AA pole vault.

Bo Gilroy of Ravenwood claimed 4th place in the AAA high jump.

Roman Dent of Brentwood was crowned champion of the AAA triple jump while teammate Kevin Lazas finished 3rd.

Sean Keveren of Brentwood claimed the state title in the AAA 3200 meter run.

Roman Dent of Brentwood came in 3rd place in the AAA 110 meter hurdles and placed 4th in the AAA 300 meter hurdles.

Centennial relay team of Wayne Coffee, Allante McLemore, Raymond Jackson, and Chaz Scales finished runner-up in the 4x100 meter relay.

Brentwood relay team of Clay Kosack, Matt Cumbee, Wes Brown, and Ford Bell finished in 3rd place in the 4x800 meter relay.

Kathy Kroeger of Independence won the state events in the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run in the AAA division.

Nicole Smith, a sophomore at Page High School won the A-AA state championship in the long jump event and the high jump event.

Courtney Woodard of Ravenwood won the state event in triple jump, came in 2nd in the pentathlon, and 3rd in the 300 hurdles.

Roman Dent of Brentwood High School won the AAA state championship in the Pole Vault.

Les Gilbert of Page High School came in 2nd place in the A-AA State Decathlon.

Kevin Lazas of Brentwood High School came in 2nd place in the AAA State Decathlon while Bo Gilroy of Ravenwood High School came in 3rd place.  Dillon Seigenthaler of Brentwood High School came in 6th.

 

Centennial and Brentwood Tennis Players Claim State Titles

Centennial junior Ian Chadwell won his third consecutive AAA singles’ title.

The Brentwood doubles’ team of Laura Stack and Ashley Hopmeyer won the AAA doubles’ title.

 

State Participants in Track and Field 

Brentwood High School sent sixteen (16) boys and five (5) girls to the state track and field championships.

Franklin High School has three students participating; Aginieska Janusako, Alex Ford, and Tucker Cathey.

Centennial has four students participating in several events; Raymond Jackson, Chaz Scales, Wayne Coffee, and Allante McClemore.

Ravenwood sent seven athletes to the state track and field events; Joachim Debock, Kate Porter, Catherine Miller, James McLeod, Bo Gilroy, Emily Allen, and Courtney Woodard.

 

Baseball and Softball Participants

Congratulations to the Ravenwood Baseball team and the Brentwood Softball team for their efforts in the state championships.  Both of these squads represented their schools well in Murfreesboro.

 

WMAA Middle School Spring Tournaments

Heritage Middle School was crowned the WMAA champions in the softball tournament.  Sunset Middle came in runner-up.

Woodland girls won 1st place in the WMAA tennis tournament with Brentwood coming in second.  In the boys’ tennis championship Brentwood Middle was crowned champion with Woodland finishing second.

Freedom Middle School defeated Grassland Middle School in extra innings to claim the title in the WMAA Junior Varsity Baseball Tournament.

Over 400 middle school athletes participated in the first ever WMAA track and field championships.  The overall winner for the girls was Brentwood Middle School and the overall winner for the boys was Freedom Middle School.  Many athletes received medals for their individual performance.

Sunset Middle captured the WMAA Varsity Baseball Championship by defeating Grassland Middle in a close game.

 

High School Tennis News

Ravenwood Boys’ tennis team defeated Hendersonville in AAA Sectionals to qualify for the state tournament.  The Brentwood doubles’ team of Laura Stack and Ashley Hopmayer are Regional Champs and also qualify for the state tournament.

 

 

District 10AA Baseball and Softball Awards

Page High School Baseball Coach Nathan Brown was named the District 10AA “Coach of the Year.”  Page baseball players who made All-District included: Trevor Scott, Matt Blankenship, Scott Lynn, Codi Webb, Drew Bryant, Garrett Gross and David Seeman.

Page High School softball players who made All-District included:  Miranda Buford, Kayla Bowling, Allison Gaddis, and Morgan Dill.

 

 

High School Track News

Dillon Seigenthaler and Kevin Lazas both of Brentwood High School have qualified for the State Decathlon.

Bo Gilroy of Ravenwood finished runner-up in the Regional Decathlon.  Courtney Woodard of Ravenwood was crowned champion of the Pentathlon

 

Soccer District Tournament Results

Page boys’ soccer team won the District 10AA championship.

Brentwood defeated Independence to capture the District championship.  All three teams advance to the Regionals..

 

Baseball District Tournament Results

Ravenwood, which was the number five seed in the tournament, defeated Centennial to claim the District 11AAA crown.  Ravenwood and Franklin baseball teams advance to the Regional Tournament. next week.

Page came in runner-up in the district tournament which qualifies them for the Regional tournament.

 

Regular Season District 11AAA Baseball Awards

Franklin High School won the regular season District 11AAA title with a 13-1 district record.  Corban Joseph of Franklin was named District MVP. Robbie Ray of Brentwood was awarded the Left-handed Pitcher of the Year.  Martin Grude of Franklin was named the Right-handed Pitcher of the Year.  Other Williamson County students recognized on the All-District team include:  Michael Perkins, Casey Dykes, Max Pittman, Tyler Harris, - Franklin;  Matt Williams, Chase Barlar, Tony Kemp, - Centennial;  Josh Lee, Jake McClendon, - Independence;  Ben Burgess, Tom Shelton, - Brentwood;  and Kes Carter – Ravenwood

 

Rob Baughman of Centennial was named Coach of the Year for District 11AAA.

 

All Mid-State Wrestling Awards

Williamson County Schools were well represented recently when The Tennessean announced its All Mid-State Wrestling awards.  Independence Wrestling coach Jared Grindstaff was named Middle Tennessee Coach of the Year in his first year at the helm.  Cameron Croy, a Brentwood Sophomore, was named the All Mid-State Wrestler of the Year.  Cameron went undefeated (38-0) while capturing the state championship in the 189 pound classification.  Joining Cameron on the All Mid-State Wrestling Team from Williamson County were:  Josh Overmyer – Brentwood Junior, Ryan Konz – Franklin Senior, Dustin Ortiz – Franklin Senior, and Tate Mustin – Brentwood Junior.  Congratulations to Coach Grindstaff and all of these wrestlers for their accomplishments this season!

 

Centennial’s Drew Kelly Honored

Centennial High School Junior Drew Kelly has been named to the 2008 All-Midstate First Team for boys’ basketball by The Tennessean.  Congratulations Drew upon receiving this honor.

 

 

 

Independence Wrestling Captures Region Title

On Saturday, January 26th Independence High School won the Region 6 Wrestling Dual Championships.  This victory enabled Independence to advance to the State Dual Championships. 

 

Williamson County Schools Shine at Regional Swim Meet

Three Williamson County Schools took the top three spots at the 2008 Mid-State Regional Championship Swim Meet. Franklin High School won the Combined Regional Championship while Ravenwood finished second and Brentwood came in third.  The State Swim Meet will be February 8th and 9th at the Centennial Sportsplex.

 

Page Boys Bowling Team Advances to State Tournament

 

The Page High School Bowling Team won their sectional match on Monday, January 21st to advance to the TSSAA State Tournament.  The State Tournament was held at the Smyrna Bowling Center Thursday, January 24th through Saturday, January 26th.  

 

Independence Wrestlers Crowned Champions in Knoxville

 

Independence High School Wrestlers traveled to East Tennessee and won the Hall Invitational Wrestling Tournament held this past weekend. (January 19th).  The Eagles placed nine wrestlers in the finals and two wrestlers won the championship in their weight classification. Those wrestlers were:  119 - Chase Beazley and 135 – Austin Cox

 

Father Ryan Invitational Wrestling Tournament

 

Brentwood High School came in 2nd place and Franklin High School finished third out of twenty six schools in the Father Ryan Invitational Wrestling Tournament held the weekend of January 4th and 5th.  County wrestlers who won the championship round in their weight classifications were:  103 - Josh Overmyer (Brentwood), 130 – Dustin Ortiz (Franklin), 145 – Ryan Konz (Franklin), 152 – Jack Whitehead (Brentwood), 160 – Ben Heacock (Franklin), 171 – Tate Mustin (Brentwood), 189 – Cameron Croy (Brentwood). 

 

Ravenwood Raptor Invitational Wrestling Tournament

 

Independence High School finished runner up at the Ravenwood Raptor Invitational Wrestling Tournament held on Saturday, January 5th.  County wrestlers who won the championship round in their weight classifications were:  119 – Chase Beazley (Independence), 125 – Sean Ford (Ravenwood), 145 – Brennen Cox (Independence), 189 – Chris Wolfe (Ravenwood). 

 

G.P. West Wrestling Tournament at Brentwood

 

The G.P. West Wrestling Invitational Tournament was held on Friday January 11th and Saturday, January 12th at Brentwood High School.  Brentwood, Centennial, Franklin, Independence, Page and Ravenwood will be among the 29 teams participating in this tournament.  Franklin finished in second place and Brentwood was right behind in third place.  County wrestlers who won the championship round in their weight classifications were:  130 - Dustin Ortiz (Franklin), 171 – Tate Mustin (Brentwood), 189 – Cameron Croy (Brentwood), 285 – Tucker Cathey (Franklin)

 

Keveren and Kroeger Honored in Cross Country

 

Sean Keveren of Brentwood and Kathy Kroeger have been named the Gatorade Tennessee Boys and Girls Cross Country Runners of the Year.  This award takes into consideration academics excellence, athletic accomplishments and community citizenship.  Both Keveren and Kroeger are now candidates for Gatorade National Runners of the Year which will be announced at a later date.

 

 

Page Boys and Centennial Girls Advance in Regional Bowling Tournament

 

The Page Boys won the Region 5 Bowling Championship yesterday by defeating Mr. Juliet.  The Centennial Girls finished runner up to Wilson Central in the Region 5 Championship.  Both county teams advance to the Sectionals. 

 

Brentwood, Ravenwood and Centennial Boys’ Basketball Teams Fare Well in Holiday Tournaments

 

Brentwood High School boys’ basketball team won their first two games in the Father Ryan Christmas Tournament before falling to Mt. Juliet in the championship game.

 

Ravenwood High School boys’ basketball team finished runner up in the inaugural Williamson County Invitational Holiday Tournament.  The tournament was held at Franklin High School and Ravenwood High School.

 

Centennial boys’ basketball team traveled to Florida and showed the “gator country” how to play some basketball.  Centennial went undefeated in tournament play and won the championship in the Walton Sun Basketball Blowout. Centennial’s Allante McLemore was named the Tournament MVP.  Drew Kelly was also named to the All-Tournament team. 

 

 

Independence High Wrestling Shines

 

Independence High School Wrestling team won the John Maher Invitational by edging Phoenix High School which is located in New York.  The tournament was held at Independence High School over the holiday break.  Congratulations to these wrestlers on a job well done!

 

Region 6-5A Football Awards

 

Williamson County Schools were well represented recently when the Region 6-5A football awards were distributed.  Coach Jason Eubanks from Independence High School was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Eagles to their first ever state championship game.  Player of the Year honors went to Ryan Consiglio form Independence.  Offensive Lineman of the Year award went to Luke Stansfield of Ravenwood High School.  The Defense MVP award went to Justin Hampton from Franklin High School.  Nate Stout of Independence won the Defensive Lineman of the Year award.  Bo Gilroy of Ravenwood was named the Special Teams Player of the Year.  Receiving the Best Kicker of the Year award was Jeff Veres from Independence and Chase Barlar of Centennial received the award for Best Punter.

 

Congratulations to Coach Eubanks and all of the football players who were recognized for their accomplishments.

 

Independence High Football Team Finishes Second in 5A State Playoffs

 

Independence High School in just their third year of playing varsity football finished runner-up in the 5A state football championships as they fell to defending state champion Smyrna High School on Saturday, December 8th.  Coach Eubanks, and the Eagle Football team represented the Independence Community and all of Williamson County admirably throughout the playoffs and in the championship game.  Congratulations to Independence High School for an outstanding year!

 

Independence’s Kroeger Shines at the Nationals

 

Kathy Kroeger finished runner up at the Footlocker National Championship Cross Country Meet in San Diego on Saturday, December 8th.  Congratulations Kathy on an outstanding season!

 

Brentwood Middle Wins WMAA Wrestling Championship

 

The Williamson Middle Athletic Association Wrestling tournament was held on Saturday, December 1st at Sunset Middle School.  Brentwood Middle won the overall tournament with 177 points.  Congratulations to Dennis Harrison and his wrestlers.  Sunset Middle came in second while Grassland finished third.  Thanks to everyone for making the tournament a success congratulations to all of the wrestlers who competed.

 

Kroeger of Independence High Wins Regional Meet

 

Kathy Kroeger a junior at Independence High School won the Footlocker South Regional Cross Country meet on Saturday, November 24th with a time of 16:56.  Kroeger now advances to the National Championships which will be held in San Diego, California on Saturday December 8th.  Congratulations Kathy and good luck at the nationals!

 

Brentwood Volleyball Team Crowned State Champions

 

On Friday, October 26th Brentwood won a hard fought battle with Ooltewah to win their eighth state volleyball championship.  Brentwood now holds the record for the most state volleyball championships.  Congratulations to Coach Barbara Campbell and the team for a great season. 

 

Franklin and Ravenwood Advance to the Girls’ State Soccer Tournament

 

Franklin High School and Ravenwood High School advanced to the 2007 girls’ state soccer tournament which was held in Chattanooga.  Franklin High School which was the regional champs hosted Beech in the sectionals 6-0 to advance to the state tournament.  Ravenwood High School which finished second in the regional tournament traveled to Hendersonville and defeated the host school 4-2 in the sectionals to advance to the school’s first ever state tournament appearance.  Congratulations to both Franklin High and Ravenwood High girls’soccer teams for their success this season!

 

Williamson County Schools Well Represented at State Cross Country Meets

 

Williamson County had students from several high schools participate in the girls’ and boys’ state cross country meets held at Percy Warner State Park on Saturday, November 3rd.  Brentwood High School girl’s team came in sixth place and Brentwood boy’s team finished eighth.  Congratulations to all of the participants in the state cross country championships!

 

Kathy Kroeger Wins Girls State Cross Country Meet

 

Kathy Kroeger, a junior at Independence High School, won her third consecutive state championship in cross country on Saturday, November 3rd.   Kroeger was 43 seconds faster than the runner up.  Way to Go Kathy Kroeger!

 

Sean Keveren Wins Boys’ State Cross Country Meet

 

Sean Keveren, a senior at Brentwood High School, won his second state champion in cross country on Saturday, November 3rd.  Keveren finished six seconds faster than the runner up.  Well Done Sean Keveren!
