Career and Technical
Student Assessment
Services
The Carl D. Perkins Vocational and
Applied Technology Act of 1990 requires "full participation" in career
and technical programs by members of special populations, including
disabled students. Schools must offer "supplementary and other services"
needed to enable special population students to enter career and
technical programs. Examples of such services include assessments and
school counseling. According to the Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act, a comprehensive career and technical assessment is
required for every child 14 years of age or older.
In order to comply with the regulations
as stated above, the Williamson County School System makes available,
interest and aptitude testing to all students in the eighth grade. This
testing is administered within groups and individually. The assessment
results are then used to assist counselors, students, and parents as
they develop the four-year plans for high school.
During the 1999-2000 school year, the
school system adopted a self-administered computerized career assessment
and reporting system.
