State Nutrition Requirements

The mission of the
Williamson County School Nutrition and Food Services department is to
provide nutritionally, well balanced meals at an affordable cost to
students while meeting all county, state and federal guidelines for
accountability in addition to meeting necessary fiscal requirements.
The Williamson County
School Nutrition Department operates within the requirements of the United
States Department of Agriculture and Tennessee State Department of
Education in offering meals that are nutritionally sound and provide 1/3
of the RDA and meals that are within the 30% fat of total calories.
Elementary School menus
are developed by the Central Office staff and nutritionally analyzed by
the State Department of Education School Nutrition Consultants.
Each school cafeteria
will offer the traditional lunch pattern, and follows the current food
pyramid guidelines, as well as options of salads or sack lunches.
Elementary school
lunches are priced at $2.25 and middle and high school lunches are
$2.50. Middle and high school students are offered many other items that
are priced as a lunch as well as ala Carte.
The Williamson County
School Nutrition Program encourages parents, grand parents, and adult
caregivers to eat with their children or grandchildren at any time.
Visitor prices are $3.25.
