Healthy Highlights at Williamson County Schools

Hunters Bend Elementary

Walking Program – The entire school walks between 10-20 minutes, rain or shine, each day participating in the Blue Cross/Blue Shield “Walking Works for Schools” program.  Each teacher has a pedometer and Lisa Arnold, physical education teacher, keeps a running record of the miles the teachers are walking.

Fitness Teams - Lisa Arnold also sponsors and works with a jump rope team, a dance troupe team of third through fifth graders from January to March and a triathlon team that participates in the GJCC triathlon on Memorial Day. Tennessee Crossroads did a feature on the “Hot Shots” jump rope team which airs on Nashville Public Television in May of 2009 on the 14th at 7pm and on the 17th at 10am.  NPT followed the team traveling to various schools in Middle Tennessee as they promoted staying healthy and active through rope skipping.  This segment will also be available through United Streaming for schools to view.

Marathon – After the holidays, HBES will be preparing students for the Country Music Kids’ Marathon in April.
