Healthy Highlights at Williamson County Schools

Scales Elementary

Run Club – The annual run club continues with both a fall club and a spring club.  Each club runs for six weeks, twice weekly for a total of twelve sessions each.  Meetings are after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 30 minutes.  Students walk, jog or run as many laps as they can for 30 minutes.  Laps are marked off on a lap card.  When the card is complete the student receives a toe token.  Grades K – 2 students must complete 15 laps (3 miles) and Grades 3 – 5 must complete 25 laps (5 miles) to receive a token.

The club started five years ago with about 100 students participating.  In the fall of 2008 there are 330 students or 53% of Scales’ students participating. In the spring the run club is tied into the Kids’ Country Music Marathon.  The club has grown so large that the Scales’ PTO paid to have the track widened and repaved.  Parents help to mark lap cards and are also encouraged to come participate with their child.  On Run Club afternoons, there is a sea of children on our track, an unbelievable sight.
