Healthy Highlights at Williamson County Schools

Westwood Elementary 

Fun Run – This is the annual fundraiser for the school.  On October 14, students, teachers, families, and friends participated. The students collect pledges and then walk or run laps to music in the time allotted. Students walked/jogged for up to an hour while parents cheered them on.  Prizes are given to the top runners/walkers in each class and grade. 

Health education 

  • Students in grades K-3 will enjoy a class with the school nurse titled “All about germs”, learning about the way germs are spread and how to get rid of them
  • Students in first grade will learn the importance of taking good care of their teeth with the CREST program by the school nurse.
  • Students in fourth grade will learn about the importance of good hygiene by the school nurse
  • Students in fifth grade will review the good hygiene program as well as learn and discuss puberty education with the school nurse.

Morning announcements – During the daily announcements, a “healthy tip” is included. 

Physical Education - Classes will be participating in the Fall Obstacle Course, bowling, jump rope, and skating between now the Winter Break.   

Staff weight loss challenge – Approximately 20 employees have taken on a weight watchers challenge.  50lbs. were lost within the group in the first 7 weeks.
