  • Investigate Choices:

      http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/beyond/bccfast1.htm Begin to investigate careers. Use STATE PROFILE at first site to look at jobs in Tennessee: outlooks by openings, fastest growing, education, other.
      Look for profiles at second site based on nationwide statistics.
      Select 2 career possibilities that might be desirable from stand point of job market.

      Fill in the questionnaire. Look at career choices from perspective of individual interests and personality traits.
      Select 2 career possibilities from standpoint of interests and personality.

    As a group we will decide on what we need to know about a career to make a well-defined career choice. Brainstorm a chart with information that you will need to find.

      Identify type of author category for this site.
    2. http://www.jobsmart.org/tools/career/spec-car.htm (Descriptions of over 2000 jobs and careers)
      Use this site to locate information needed and evaluate the information. Examine authority of links. Identify professional organizations/associations that represent career choices. Does this site have information you need? Is this a good site for your career choice?
      Find specific information for your career choice listed in our chart formulated in #3 (minimum 5 areas).
      Select one site related to yor career choice and print out copy.

  • Searching the Internet http://home.sprintmail.com/~debflanagan/main.html (Use search tutorial to identify 3 new search tools.)
    1. Look at different ways to search using tutorial from Debbie Flanagan's site.
      Use 1 subject directory, 1 search engine, and 1 metasearch engine to find information on your career choice. Use search strategies as directed for each search directory and search engine to locate information. Print out first page of hits for each search tool.
      Search for specific information for your career choice listed in our chart formulated above. (minimum 5 areas)
      Print out results of ONE SOURCE FROM EACH OF THE THREE searches.
      Evaluate sites as to authority and accuracy. Rate 1-5 (5 is best). Make sure you have quality information.
      Identify the type of author category you have for documentation FOR EACH OF THE THREE RESOURCES SELECTED. Document the words you used to search on your topic and the search tool you used.
