The 2007-08 Basketball season will mark Coach Whitlock’s 2nd season with the Raptors Boys Basketball Program.  In 2006-07 Whitlock made his Head Coaching debut, leading the Raptors to a tie for 5th place in District 11-AAA with an overall record of 13-17.  Whitlock teaches in the Social Studies department at Ravenwood and had spent the previous 5 years with the Pepperdine Basketball program in Malibu, CA.

 

Whitlock was a 1995 honors graduate of White Station High School, located in Memphis.  Whitlock played 2 years at one of Tennessee’s most respected high school programs under the direction of Memphis coaching legend Terry Tippett.

 

Following high school Whitlock attended Vanderbilt University.  Whitlock worked as a student assistant for the Vanderbilt men’s basketball program from 1995-99 under the direction of head coach Jan van Breda Kolff. The Commodores compiled a four-year record of 71-54 (.568), and advanced to post-season tournament play three times, including NIT Berths in 1996 and 1998, along with a NCAA Tournament berth in 1997.  Whitlock was presented the “Behind the Scenes Award” by the Vanderbilt men’s basketball program in 1999.  Whitlock graduated From Vanderbilt in 1999 with a dual major in History and Educational Studies. 

 

Whitlock served as the assistant varsity and head junior varsity basketball coach at St. Cecilia Academy during the 2000-01 season.  Whitlock helped improve the Scarabs win total from 5 the previous year to 13.  The junior varsity team was the first one to be fielded in years and was a perfect 5-0 in games decided by 3 points or less despite having an all freshman roster.

 

Following the 2000-01 season Whitlock was hired as Director of Basketball Operations  at Pepperdine University.  Whitlock played a valuable role in the daily operation of the program and assists the coaching staff with a myriad of special projects including film exchange and the coordination of team travel.

 

Following the 2002-03 season Whitlock was promoted to assistant coach.  Along with having a role in some of his former responsibilities, Whitlock will took on many additional roles as well, including scheduling, helping with compliance issues, coordination of support staff, and an enhanced role in recruiting and scouting.

 

Whitlock helped Pepperdine compile an overall record of 76-72 (.510), including a 38-32 (.540) mark in West Coast Conference (WCC) play.  The Waves captured the WCC crown in 2002 and fell to Wake Forest in the 1st round of NCAA Tournament.  The Pepperdine staff was awarded the NABC District 15 Coach of the Year in 2002. 

 

During Whitlock’s tenure the Waves had the #1 recruiting classes in the WCC on 3 different occasions; 2002, 2003, and 2005 by Hoopscoop Online and Street and Smith’s magazine.  Whitlock also coached 7 All-WCC selections, 3 WCC Freshmen of the Year winners, and 7 professional players, 2 of which are in the NBA. In addition to his duties at Pepperdine, Whitlock also taught in the P.E. Department along with earning his Master’s Degree in Educational Technology, finishing with a 3.9 G.P.A.

 

Whitlock is married to the former Tina Rae Paschke and their daughter Raya Belle will turn 2 in  November.  The Whitlock’s reside in Franklin.
