About Me…

My name is Michael Haywood and I’m a 4th year student at Ravenwood High School. I’ve been involved in our media production program for the past 3 years and it’s been my favorite activity since I started. I have also been involved with track and field for quite a long time, but I decided that it just wasn’t for me any more. I worked every day after and put forth so much effort, but I lost interest as time went on.

Just last year, I started working WC-TV which is the Williamson County television station for government and school happenings. Although I’ve been engulfed by television for the past couple years, my heart really lies in film.

My favorite things to do are being with my friends, relaxing, kayaking, running, watching and making movies, learning German, reading, drawing, driving on scenic roads, swapping theories about space and time, and I occasionally enjoy being at school.

Job Shadow

I spent my Career Shadow with a Vanderbilt Film Professor and Screenwriter, Will Akers. I spent my time learning the basics of screenwriting and the film business. I also was able to meet Coke Sams, a friend a Will’s who is in the movie-making business as well. I was able to build a couple contacts and learn an extensive amount about the general idea of a movie script.

Since my job shadow, I have continued to attend the Vanderbilt film and screenwriting classes once a week.

        Will Akers

Akers has written screenplays for fifteen years. For seven years, he has taught filmmaking and screenwriting at Vanderbilt University.

His scripts for ERNEST RIDES AGAIN and THE WOLVES OF WILLOUGHBY CHASE were produced in Canada and England. His screenplay for THE WOLVES OF WILLOUGHBY CHASE was nominated for a CableAce. In addition, Akers has written feature screenplays for MGM, Disney, and Universal Studios.

He adapted Simon Murray's diary of five years in the French Foreign Legion as SIMON: AN ENGLISH LEGIONNAIRE, an epic love story set against the Algerian revolution. Produced and directed by Martin Huberty, it stars Paul Fox as Simon Murray.

In television, he has written for LOIS AND CLARK, STRANGE LUCK, and was a staff writer on the original EERIE, INDIANA.

Akers has written and directed non-broadcast documentaries, written and produced a live story-driven motor racing series for cable, and written and directed children's videos.

He is currently preparing to produce SIGNS FOLLOWING, an Appalachian gothic film about snakehandlers and dope growers he co-wrote with Dub Cornett. It has been optioned by Pink Slip Pictures in Los Angeles.
